so baby take a walk on the wild side.

Event planning is a perpetual cycle. Now I can say this with a positive or negative connotation, for me it’s said with a positivity.

Does it make me stressed and anxious on occasions? Yes of course it does and for anyone who says it doesn’t I’d like to have their blood pressure check through the entire planning as its bound to rise at some point.

What can be done so it’s not an overwhelming feeling? Hire a planner. Simple.

That’s okay if you can afford a planner, for many they are the ones planning it. Particularly in relation to a person’s Wedding.

I thought about this more as I overheard a conversation between a bride and her friend, I was struck by how she expressed herself and her body language.

There was a deep breath in and her shoulders dropped as though the weight of the world was on her shoulders.

She stood there with tears flowing saying she feels so overwhelmed and doesn’t feel she should feel that way. Her friend’s reaction didn’t surprise me as people who haven’t been through it wont truly understand how it can make you feel.

It was at that point that I felt I should say something to her. I gently went closer to her and softly said, “I hope you don’t mind me saying this but my heart went out to you hearing and seeing you feel as you do. I want to let you know that you’re not alone in feeling this way.” I held up my phone and shown her my business card that is on the back of my phone. I went on to tell her that as someone who does Wedding planning and has for many years, I still feel stressed and anxious as I want to make sure the couple’s day is exactly as they had envisioned. That feeling doesn’t go away, it’s a feeling because we care and want it to be a success.

I explained that while we want everything to be perfect, we are setting ourselves up for being let down as you can’t control everything, only the aspects which are directly involved in.

When I feel stressed, I take timeout to reflect on why I’m doing this and what it means for the couple to have support and help so they don’t feel overwhelmed.

It grounds me and I know that I have a plan I follow and this is why I have it.

So, if you are planning your wedding at this time, know its normal to feel stressed and overwhelmed at times. Professionals are not immune to this feeling either.
